The Choice by Nicholas Sparks is a story about Travis Parker, an adventurous man who lives in his small hometown in North Carolina and seems to have it all. Amazing friends, a sister who is just like him, and his traveling which has taken him all around the world. He loves his good life filled with Saturday barbecues and trips on his boat and feels no need to have girlfriend to get in his way. Then, Gabby Holland moves in next door, the pretty girl who leads a life of simplicity and normality. She is a children’s doctor who is committed to her long- term relationship with her boyfriend who lives out of town. She and Travis don’t get off to a great start, but once Travis saves her dog from a possibly fatal occurrence, the neighbors find themselves in situations neither of them could have imagined happening.
Their relationship deepens as they spend more time together, then fast forward eleven years and they end up happily married with children of their own. Who would’ve thought? However, a shocking incident leads Travis to make the most important choice he will ever have to make, hence the title of the book, The Choice.
I loved this book, and couldn’t put it down when I was reading. There were many twists and turns that made me want to read the whole book at once! Once you start reading it, you expect a very different ending than what actually happens. I have had to make difficult decisions in my life, but definitely not a decision as hard as the one Travis has to make. That’s about how much my life connects to the book, which isn’t a lot. I don’t have much in common with the main characters, and they lead lives much different than mine.
I would recommend this book to someone who loves a true love story and isn’t afraid to cry about events in the story. The book takes you on a journey you have to be ready for, and if you love a good surprise ending, the book is perfect for you.
